Electric Yellow cichlid 10 gallon tank?

hi i had to move one of my cichlids into a 10gallon tank due to behavior problems. The tank has been running for a while with nothing in it. Will this be enough room for the one cichlid? Should i get him another "buddie" or will the one be okay? He is old(about 3 years) and at his maximum size of 4 inches.
