Riding for charity - anyone have experience?

i heard today about people who've raised money for charity by riding cross-country, kind of a ride for a cause. this person i heard about rode across spain and france. has anyone ever heard of doing this?how could i find out about getting info to maybe do it? im old enough, 22. just currently uninformed! anyone know anything???
