Thinking about buying a .38....?

Im buying my first gun and Ive found a .38 special that has caught my eye. But it isn't a regualr one, its description says ".38 Spl+P". Does this just mean it has extra power or what? and also, does it take the same ammo as a regualr 38 special or no? Thanks for any help!
